At the heart of the Harlem renaissance, we are experiencing the Great Depression inside the apartments of Guy and Delia who are daily accompanied by Angel and Sam. The group is up against the conflicting currents of the time and are struggling to keep their artistic dreams alive. Using music by black female artists from the 1920s, (such as Ma Rainey, Rosa Henderson, Ethel Waters, and Bessie Smith) we were able to craft beautiful transitions that showed the lived in apartment and experiences of this group of friends. We used an onstage radio to shift us from the passage of time to into the scenes.

Because you deserve better.”
